About Us

Thornbury Bowls Club is a growing and competitive lawn bowls club with almost 90 pennant members and over 300 social and social bowling members. We have achieved consecutive flags and promotions in the past 4 seasons and currently have 3 Saturday Pennant sides in Division 2, 5 and 7. We have a midweek (Tuesday) pennant team in Division 5 and several night pennant sides in Division 3.

Our Values

Thornbury Bowls Club prides itself on being a friendly and inclusive space for members of all ages and backgrounds. We welcome both new and experienced bowlers to the club. We believe that bowls is a sport for every person of any ability from ages 9-99.

We are one of the youngest clubs in lawn bowls with an average member age of 42. You might think bowls is a sport for old people (especially if you’ve seen Crackerjack) but bowls is actually becoming incredibly popular among ages 25-45. In fact, the average age of the Australian Jackaroos lawn bowls was 29.3 in 2014.

We take part in Metropolitan Pennant which is administered by our governing body Bowls Victoria. Metropolitan Pennant encompasses five Bowls Regions within the city of Melbourne. The season runs between October to March yearly, comprising of midweek and weekend competitions.
